Vulpus was an atmospheric/post‑black metal project from Porto, active between 2013 and 2017, built around a vision that merged natural mysticism, existential tension, and the dual archetype embodied in their name—the Wolf and the Fox, symbols of instinct, cunning, and inner fragmentation. Formed in mid‑August 2013 by G. and K.X., the project quickly took shape as a raw yet deeply atmospheric expression of creation and destruction, ego dissolution, and anomie. Within a few months, J. joined the lineup, completing the trio that would define the band’s short but intense existence.

Their first release, the self‑titled Vulpus demo (2014), emerged only months after formation. Initially digital‑only, it was later issued on CD due to growing underground interest. The demo introduced the band’s characteristic blend of post‑black metal expansiveness and harsh, introspective atmosphere—long, flowing structures, anguished vocals, and a sense of nature as both refuge and threat.

The full‑length Certitude (2017) marked the culmination of their artistic trajectory. It expanded their sound into a more immersive, emotionally charged form, weaving themes of self‑negation, inner conflict, and the cyclical forces of creation and ruin. The album’s atmosphere—cold, windswept, and spiritually fractured—placed Vulpus firmly within the lineage of Portuguese post‑black metal while maintaining a distinct identity shaped by philosophical tension and mythic symbolism.

Although the band dissolved after 2017, a final echo appeared with the single Void. (2022), released years after their split. It stands as a solitary posthumous fragment, a last transmission from a project defined by introspection, dissolution, and the pull of the natural and psychological abyss.

Vulpus remains remembered for its brief but potent contribution to the Portuguese atmospheric/post‑black metal landscape: a project where myth, ego, and nature converged in a sound both feral and fragile.

The name "Vulpus" represents a unity between the archetypal concepts of the Wolf and the Fox within mythological beliefs.

Vulpus was formed during mid-August 2013 by G. and K.X. After four months, J. joined the band and one month later, the first demo was released in digital format. Due to the interest in a physical release, the demo was released on CD
