Brazil hosts one of the largest, most diverse and emotionally charged black metal ecosystems on the planet — a vast continental landscape where atmospheric, post‑black, symphonic, melodic, depressive and folk‑infused currents coexist in a sprawling, ever‑expanding constellation. From the equatorial humidity of Amazonas to the concrete sprawl of São Paulo and the cold southern plains of Rio Grande do Sul, each region contributes its own distinct voice.
São Paulo stands as the gravitational center of the scene, home to defining projects such as Acacia Crown, Dark Devotion, Lerna, Solstheim, Symphonic Sorrow, Umbilichaos and Upon a Frozen Shore. Minas Gerais, historically one of Brazil’s metal heartlands, contributes atmospheric and symphonic pillars such as Alkahest, Angel Distress, Deadmoon, Gloomy Ritual, Morbid Prophecy and Mørkt.
The North and Northeast regions add a unique emotional and ritualistic dimension: Kaatayra, Álef Hylliel, N.S.Y,R.A, V/H/S, Sarcoma in Christ, Namuh and Muireterium explore atmospheric, depressive and post‑black territories with unmistakable regional identity.
In the South, Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina cultivate a colder, introspective branch of the genre through Dispar, Dismal Wistful, Todlicher, Spectral Lament, Austhral and Arvorar.
Brazil’s scene is defined by scale, emotion and experimentation: a living archive of thousands of voices, each shaping the country’s immense black metal identity. This section gathers the most significant active forces of this vast territory, mapping a scene that grows endlessly in depth, diversity and shadow.
