Looking for Mystica emerged from Valencia in 2006, rising from the ashes of two earlier incarnations: Necrology (1999โ2000) and Chrysanthemum (2000โ2006). Each transformation brought a shift in sound and ambition, culminating in Looking for Mystica’s melodic black/death metal identity. Their style blends aggressive riffing with atmospheric undertones, melodic guitar interplay, and a vocal approach that balances harshness with emotional intensity. The band’s evolution reflects a gradual move from raw early black/death influences toward a more structured, melodic, and introspective sound.
Their only known release, the 2008 demo Prelude: Treagedy of a Life That Passes By, captures this blend of melody and extremity. The demo showcases melancholic guitar harmonies, dynamic tempo changes, and a sense of narrative drama that hints at a conceptual approach to songwriting. Although underground and sparsely distributed, the recording gained attention through its inclusion of the track “Melissa” on the compilation Spain Kills Vol.03: Black Metal (2008), which helped introduce the band to a wider extremeโmetal audience.
Looking for Mystica’s lineup consisted largely of musicians who had already worked together during the Chrysanthemum era, giving the project a sense of continuity despite the name change. Their music reflects this shared history: tight instrumental cohesion, a clear melodic sensibility, and a commitment to emotional expression within the black/death metal framework. After 2008, the band’s activity becomes unclear, with no confirmed releases or public updates, leaving their current status uncertain. Still, their brief output remains a snapshot of Valencia’s underground metal scene during the midโ2000s, marked by ambition, intensity, and a strong melodic identity.
