Mízar was a short‑lived but memorable power/folk metal band from A Coruña, active between 1998 and 2003. Emerging during a period when Galician folk metal was still taking shape, Mízar blended melodic power‑metal structures with traditional instrumentation—most notably bagpipes and flute, which gave their sound a distinctly regional character. Their music leaned toward uplifting melodies, bright folk lines, and a sense of Celtic‑infused energy that placed them alongside the earliest wave of Galician folk‑metal experimentation.

The band released a 25‑minute demo in 2000, which circulated locally and helped establish their presence in the Galician underground. Their only full‑length, the self‑titled Mízar (2002), showcased their strongest material: energetic guitar work, folk‑driven melodies, and dual vocal textures supported by keyboards. While the album remained relatively obscure outside their region, it captured the spirit of a scene that was beginning to explore the fusion of metal with traditional Galician sounds.

By 2003, the band’s trail disappears—no further releases, no official split announcement, simply a quiet dissolution. Several members went on to remain active in the Galician music scene, most notably JosĂ© Carballido, who later developed a prolific solo career and contributed to various metal and rock projects.

MĂzar remains a small but intriguing footnote in the history of Galician folk metal: a band whose brief existence contributed to the early shaping of a regional sound that would later flourish through more widely known acts.
