Mortis Cruentus, formed in Alicante in 2003, is one of the Valencian Community’s longest‑running extreme‑metal bands, evolving from raw black metal roots into a sharper, more aggressive form of melodic death metal. Their name—“Bloody Death”—captures the essence of their lyrical and aesthetic focus: violence, warfare, and the darker instincts of humanity. Over two decades, they’ve built a reputation for intensity, consistency, and a sound that balances brutality with melody.

Their first demo, Maid of the Mist (2007), introduced a cold, blackened foundation that earned them a place on the compilation Spain Kills Vol. 04: Black Metal (Xtreem Music, 2008). With their debut full‑length Agony as Doom (2009), Mortis Cruentus began shifting toward a more melodic death‑metal approach—tight riffing, harsh vocals, and a war‑driven atmosphere that became their signature.

The EP Winter Holocaust (2013) cemented this evolution, delivering a harsher, more modern sound. After several lineup changes, the band resurfaced with the single “Legitimus Rex Daemoniorum” (2017) and the full‑length Hellthrone (2017), a record that showcased their most refined blend of melody and aggression to date.

In 2023, Mortis Cruentus returned with Destroyers of Humanity, an EP that reaffirmed their commitment to war‑themed melodic death metal—razor‑sharp guitars, relentless drumming, and a vocal delivery steeped in rage and despair. Despite remaining independent, the band has maintained a steady presence in the Spanish underground, supported by a dedicated fanbase and a strong live reputation.
