Aisling is a symphonic black metal band from Italy, formed in 1998. Their name — derived from the Irish word for “vision” or “dream” — reflects the band’s poetic and mythic orientation, blending Celtic imagery with epic black metal soundscapes.
Founded by Davide Cicalese (vocals, lyrics) and Federico Puleri (guitars, composition), Aisling emerged from the northern Italian underground with a clear intent: to fuse the grandeur of symphonic arrangements with the raw intensity of black metal. Their music evokes windswept landscapes, ancestral battles, and spiritual longing, often drawing from Irish mythology and European folklore.
The band’s early releases, including Aisling (demo, 2000) and Tráth na Gaoth (2002), established their signature style — melodic yet ferocious, atmospheric yet martial. Their full-length Aisling / Tráth na Gaoth (2004) consolidated their reputation, followed by Aisling II – Aisling Dorchadas (2005), which deepened their exploration of mythic and esoteric themes.
Aisling’s lyrical focus spans dreams, visions, nature, and Celtic mysticism, often delivered through a mix of harsh vocals and spoken passages. Their compositions are rich with layered guitars, sweeping keyboards, and dynamic tempo shifts, creating a cinematic and ritualistic experience.
Though their activity has slowed in recent years, Aisling remains a respected name in the Italian symphonic black metal tradition — a project where vision becomes sound, and myth becomes music.
