interview 29/12/2020

ABM: What was your first contact with Metal?
I can't remember my very first contact but it might have been Iron Maiden. When it comes to black metal it was Gorgoroth.
ABM: How did the idea for Nachtsang came to life?
There isn't really a lot to say. There was an 18 year old with his drums and guitar in a shaby makeshift rehearsal room.
ABM: Where did the band name come from?
From old high German
ABM: advantages and disadvantages of being a one man band?
For me the biggest advantage is that you are able to implement your ideas just as you like and working at your own pace.
On the other hand there is less input compared to bands with more members. Sometimes I feel that a little food for thought is necessary from others.
ABM: What inspires you? Is there a particular band that inspired you? tell us about your favorite musicians
In the band's early days groups like Abigor or Acherontas have been a big inspiration, but since the band has gone through a considerable change the inspirations changed as well.
The biggest ones are Mono and Møl and it seems that this is the kind of music I like to create besides my other project called Kveld (which is a pagan folk project).
ABM: your old logo contains unmistakable symbols, What is your view in Satanism and Occultism/esotericism?
I am fine with it. I explored and lived it but eventually it didn't give me what I was searching for.
ABM: your style has changed considerably over the years, you started from black metal to reach post rock, tell us about your evolution as musician
One has to wander through darkness to find light.
ABM: tell us about your latest release "520 Stars over Takamagahara"

The impetus for writing this album was a tragic happening which took place many years ago. But it's easy to find out by the album name itself. I usually don't reveal any background of my music because I want my listeners to give the songs their own personal meaning.
ABM: Which of the songs you have composed so far is your favorite? and why?
I think "the fear in our eyes" from "520 Stars over Takamagahara". It's quite minimalistic but expresses a lot in my opinion.
ABM: Where did you record your albums?
I record and mix everything in my homestudio.
ABM: What are your plans for the future?
I am thinking about getting a vocalist on board but until that I am concentrating on my other project.
ABM; Do you have something to add? Tell us about something you wanted to make known and that you never revealed.
I want to thank everybody who listens to my music and I am more than happy if someone finds his or her very own meaning in one of my songs.
