Ecnephias is a blackened death/gothic metal band from Potenza, Italy, formed in 1996 and known for its occult themes and poetic darkness. The project’s early demo November stands as a cult masterpiece, elevated by the exceptional contribution of Valkus (Valkiria), whose guitar work and atmospheric inserts shaped its ritual aura.
Founded by Mancan, Ecnephias emerged from the southern Italian underground with a sound rooted in blackened death and doom metal, later evolving toward gothic and dark metal textures. Their lyrical themes span occultism, pagan rites, medieval witchcraft, and subterranean introspection, often delivered through dramatic vocals and layered instrumentation.
The November demo, released during the band’s formative years, remains a cornerstone of their discography. Valkus, the visionary behind Valkiria, joined the project during this phase, contributing guitar passages and ambient textures that imbued the release with a haunting, cinematic quality. His presence is felt throughout the demo’s structure, transforming it into a ritual document of Italian dark metal history.
Ecnephias has since released multiple full-length albums under labels such as My Kingdom Music, maintaining a distinct identity that blends Mediterranean mysticism with extreme metal. Mancan continues to lead the band, also known for his work in Abbas Taeter, Saturnalis Nox, and other esoteric projects
