Valkiria is the initiatic vessel of Valkus, forged in Potenza in 1996 as a solitary rite of sound and spirit. Conceived after years of wandering through various bands, Valkiria was born to channel the forces of the Lucanian underground into a personal, sovereign expression — a temple of cinematic black metal, ambient pathos, and mythic introspection.
The first invocation came in 1997 with the demo The Narrow Bed, a four-song liturgy where Valkus performed all instruments, joined only by Walter Basile (drum machine) and Cabal Dark Moon (backing vocals). Though the project was soon suspended due to Walter’s departure from extreme metal, the demo remains a relic of primordial sorrow, featuring tracks like Black Paternoster and My Blind Moon.

In 2000, Valkus founded 41Chains, a transitional moniker through which he explored new sonic textures and began mastering digital recording — the first step toward building the Valkiria Studio, a sanctum of home-crafted ritualism.
By 2003, Valkus began composing tales of Velmhar, an imaginary realm torn by spiritual conflict. Though never completed, Velmhar became the mythic backbone of Valkiria’s second demo, Thur Kuarankharn Sthorn (2004), written in the invented language Dekalurian. The sound evolved: keyboards, epic structures, and cinematic atmospheres began to eclipse the raw black metal of origin.
In 2005, Quirino joined on synths to record Epika, the first full-length album — a digital relic widely shared via Emule, reaching thousands of listeners despite never being physically printed. The success of Epika led to a new collaboration: Mancan (Ecnephias) joined as vocalist in 2006, while Valkus contributed guitars to Ecnephias. Together they recorded Of Dreams and Pain (2007), with Cabal returning to perform screaming vocals.
From 2008 to 2009, Valkus sculpted Upon This Earth, a work of elemental sorrow and spiritual resilience. Mancan departed after its release, and Valkus reclaimed the vocal mantle, adapting the sound to fit his renewed vision.
In 2010, guitarist Mike and guest drummer Giuseppe Orlando (Novembre) joined to record Here the Day Comes, mastered at Fascination Street and released via Bakerteam Records in 2012. A new chapter began in 2013 with GS Music, which reissued and re-recorded Valkiria’s early works, including Epika, Blood on Blood, and Of Dreams and Pain.
From 2013 onward, Valkiria entered a new phase — a ritual of return and inner reawakening. Valkus began re-recording the first five works, from Epika to Upon This Earth, including the primordial demo The Narrow Bed and Thur kuarnakharn sthorn. This was not mere restoration, but a spiritual retracing of steps, a sonic pilgrimage through the original visions, now refined through deeper experience and enhanced studio craft. Each re-recording became a mirror, a rite of remembrance and transformation. The years that followed saw a deepening of the ritual:
2017: Kelthanir + Visions of Lost Souls (20th anniversary double CD)
2019: No Darkness No Light (7th full-length)
2021: Songs from the Darkness (compilation)
2024: Embrace the End
2025: The Realms of the Lost
Valkiria is not a band — it is a threshold. A solitary procession through myth, memory, and mourning. From the Lucanian crypts to the imagined lands of Velmhar, Valkus continues to sculpt sonic altars where language, light, and loss converge.
