Ægre is a symphonic black metal band from Reggio Emilia, Italy, originally founded in 2001 under the name Evil Whisper. Renamed in 2005, Ægre channels mystic chants and dark atmospheres through orchestral arrangements and blackened aggression.
Ægre emerged from the Emilia-Romagna underground as Evil Whisper in 2001, founded by Pedro and Nino. Initially steeped in raw black metal, the project evolved toward a more symphonic and ritualistic sound, prompting a transformation in 2005 — both in name and musical direction.
The band’s lyrical themes revolve around mysticism, esoteric chants, and the embodiment of evil, often conveyed through layered keyboards, tremolo riffs, and dramatic vocal passages. Though unsigned, Ægre has maintained an independent presence, contributing to Italy’s tradition of atmospheric and symphonic black metal.
Their sonic identity blends traditional black metal fury with cinematic arrangements, evoking a sense of ritual and transcendence. Despite limited public releases, Ægre remains active, continuing to sculpt their sound from the shadows of Reggio Emilia.
