1804 is a Serbian black metal project founded in 2025 by the prolific musician Mrazoslav, whose work across numerous underground bands has made him a recognizable figure in the Balkan extreme metal scene. The project takes its name from the year of the First Serbian Uprising, signaling from the outset a strong ideological and historical focus. Musically, 1804 blends raw black metal with martial atmospheres, nationalist themes, and references to Orthodox spirituality, creating a sound that is both aggressive and steeped in regional identity.
The debut full‑length U gradu krvi i dima (2025) introduced the project with a harsh, militant tone, drawing on wartime imagery and narratives of resistance. The same year saw a rapid succession of singles and EPs—Crveni makovi, Talmudski sinagoga Satane, Karađorđe, Junaci S.D.K., Pobedna pesma, Srpska zemlja bez Albanaca, Decadent Jew, and Kada smo bili u vojni—each exploring different facets of Serbian history, myth, and conflict. This intense productivity mirrors Mrazoslav’s broader artistic pattern: fast‑moving, ideologically charged releases built on raw production and uncompromising intent.
The second full‑length, Ujedinjeni pod Kolovratom (2025), expanded the project’s sonic palette with more structured compositions and a stronger emphasis on epic, battle‑driven themes. Underground listeners noted its blend of traditional black metal riffing with folkloric undertones and a distinctly Balkan melodic sensibility.
In 2026, 1804 released the demo Krv i zemlja otadžbine, followed by the full‑length Nož, žica, Srebrenica, one of the project’s most controversial and confrontational works. The album’s stark historical references and provocative framing drew attention from niche black metal circles, reinforcing the project’s identity as a deliberately incendiary and politically charged act.
Throughout its output, 1804 maintains a raw, militant aesthetic rooted in nationalism, wartime memory, and Orthodox symbolism. Mrazoslav’s characteristic lo‑fi production, relentless pace, and ideological focus place the project firmly within the lineage of Eastern European black metal that prioritizes message, atmosphere, and historical identity over mainstream accessibility.
