Anapilin is a Kaunas‑based black metal band formed in 2016, known for its bleak, abrasive sound and its fixation on psychological collapse, existential decay, and the darker corners of human consciousness. The name itself—meaning “to the afterlife” or “into the beyond”—captures the project’s core identity: a descent into inner voids, mental fragmentation, and the dissolution of meaning. Their music blends traditional black metal aggression with depressive atmospheres, dissonant riffing, and a raw emotional edge that reflects the band’s thematic focus on nihilism and misanthropy.
The band’s first significant release, the EP Krachas (2019), introduced their harsh, unfiltered approach. The sound is primitive yet expressive, driven by jagged guitar work and tortured vocals that evoke a sense of spiraling mental instability. This was followed by the single Neganda (2020) and the demo Urvas (2020), both of which expanded the project’s sonic palette with darker, more suffocating atmospheres and a stronger emphasis on psychological decay.
Their full‑length album Dezintegracija (2021) marked a major step forward. The record is a dense, oppressive exploration of mental disintegration, built on cold riff structures, relentless drumming, and a vocal performance steeped in anguish and hostility. Reviews highlighted the album’s sincerity and emotional weight, noting its ability to convey a sense of internal collapse without resorting to theatrics. The production remains intentionally raw, reinforcing the claustrophobic, self‑destructive mood that defines the band’s identity.
From 2022 onward, Anapilin shifted toward a steady stream of singles—Pabaiga (2022), Tuščia erdvė (2023), Breaking the Fourth Wall (2024), Applause in an Empty Theater (2024)—each release refining their sound while maintaining the same bleak thematic core. These tracks explore isolation, existential exhaustion, and the absurdity of human experience, often with a more experimental or introspective edge. The 2024 self‑titled EP Anapilin further solidified their presence in the Lithuanian underground, while the 2025 single Monotonija continues their trajectory into increasingly depressive and atmospheric territory.
Despite lineup changes—particularly the departure of long‑time drummer Magyla in 2023—the band has remained active and creatively restless. Their work resonates within the Lithuanian black metal scene for its emotional authenticity, its unpolished intensity, and its commitment to exploring the psychological and existential void.
