Anhedonia is a depressive black metal project from Brodnica, Poland, formed in 2012 and built around a stable five‑member lineup devoted to themes of depression, suicide, and misanthropy. From its inception, the band embraced the bleak, minimalist aesthetics of early DSBM, combining cold guitar lines, repetitive structures, and anguished vocals with a raw, unpolished production that amplifies the emotional desolation at the core of their music. Their sound is rooted in slow, suffocating atmospheres and a sense of existential emptiness, reflecting the genre’s most uncompromising traditions.
The debut EP “Nieistnienie” (2012) introduced Anhedonia’s characteristic approach: sorrow‑laden melodies, distant screams, and a stark, oppressive mood. The following year, the band contributed a cover of “Spell of Destruction” to a Burzum tribute compilation, further aligning themselves with the atmospheric and depressive lineage of second‑wave black metal. Their 2013 split with Rotten Light expanded their presence in the underground, showcasing a slightly more textured and melodic interpretation of DSBM while maintaining the project’s core bleakness.
Anhedonia’s lineup—Tasman on vocals, Hasthur and Otis on guitars, Adonai on bass, and MW on drums—has remained unchanged since the beginning, giving the project a rare continuity within the depressive black metal scene. Although currently on hold, the band’s small but impactful discography has earned a place in the Polish DSBM underground for its sincerity, emotional weight, and unwavering dedication to themes of inner collapse and human despair.
