Ars Magna Umbrae is a Polish atmospheric black metal project founded in 2017 and led solely by K.M., also known under aliases such as Kthunae Mortifer and Petros Xolaiathyos. Conceived as an esoteric and philosophical exploration of the “Great Art of the Shadow,” the project blends occult mysticism, metaphysical themes, and cosmic symbolism into a dense, immersive black metal framework. Its sound is marked by dissonant riffing, ritualistic ambience, and a strong emphasis on atmosphere, drawing comparisons to both the Polish and Icelandic schools of modern black metal.
The debut EP “Through Lunar Gateways” (2017) introduced the project’s astral and ceremonial aesthetic, followed by the first fullālength “Lunar Ascension” (2018), a work that expanded its cosmic and occult narrative. The album’s growing underground recognition led to a partnership with I, Voidhanger Records, which reissued the record and continued to support subsequent releases.
With “Apotheosis” (2020), Ars Magna Umbrae deepened its exploration of metaphysical transformation, merging ethereal textures with dissonant black metal structures. The 2021 album “Throne Between Worlds” pushed the project into even more expansive territory, weaving together surreal atmospheres, intricate guitar work, and a sense of otherworldly grandeur. Across all releases, the project maintains a cohesive artistic identity rooted in esoteric philosophy, shadow symbolism, and a solitary creative vision.
