At the Lake was a symphonic folk metal band from Warsaw, Poland, active between 2005 and 2014. Their music blended heavy metal with Celtic, classical, and traditional folk influences, shaped especially by the prominent use of violin and expressive female vocals. The band developed a warm, melodic, and narrative‑driven sound rooted in themes of nature, history, tales, and human emotion, often carried by lush keyboard arrangements and dynamic interplay between acoustic and electric elements.
Their self‑titled debut album “At the Lake” (2006) introduced their characteristic fusion of folk instrumentation and symphonic metal structures, earning attention within the Polish underground for its melodic richness and emotional sincerity. Over the following years, lineup changes—particularly among vocalists—brought shifts in tone and expression, culminating in the 2012 full‑length “Māÿā”, a more mature and expansive work that showcased stronger symphonic arrangements, refined violin passages, and a broader emotional palette. The band also released the demo “Live Again” in 2009, capturing their energetic live presence.
The final lineup featured Milena Kunert on violin and later vocals, Krzysztof Kluz on guitars, Michał Badocha on bass, Anna Turwoń on keyboards, and Alex on drums, with earlier contributions from several vocalists who helped shape the band’s evolving identity. Though now on hold, At the Lake remains remembered for its heartfelt blend of folk storytelling and symphonic metal, and for its role in enriching the Polish folk‑metal landscape.
