Axut is a long‑running black/viking metal band from Sopelana, active since 2005 and rooted in the Basque underground. Their music blends the raw aggression of black metal with the heroic, melodic sensibilities of viking metal, shaped by a distinctly local spirit. Though their recorded output is minimal, Axut have maintained a steady presence thanks to their commitment to a traditional, riff‑driven sound and their role within the Basque metal community.
Their sole release to date, the demo Guda Oihua (2010), captures the band’s early identity: harsh vocals, dual‑guitar interplay, and a raw, unpolished production that emphasizes atmosphere over refinement. The demo’s title—“War Cry”—reflects the band’s martial, defiant tone, rooted in themes of struggle, identity, and mythic confrontation. While Axut have not released further recordings, they have remained active, continuing to rehearse, perform locally, and refine their material.
The band’s lineup has remained relatively stable, with the core of Mikel, Gaizka, Juan Cruz, and vocalist David Favi forming the backbone of Axut’s sound. The addition of drummer Topo in 2010 marked a turning point, solidifying the rhythm section and contributing to the band’s continued activity. Their music, though infrequent in release, reflects the enduring spirit of Basque underground metal: raw, honest, and forged through years of persistence rather than commercial ambition.
