Bastard of Loran is a symphonic black metal project from Barcelona, founded in 2020 and inspired heavily by the dark, mythic, and war‑scarred worlds of the SoulsBorne game trilogy. The project blends the dramatic orchestration and cinematic scope of symphonic metal with the harshness, speed, and atmosphere of black metal, creating a sound that mirrors the oppressive grandeur of FromSoftware’s universes. Towering choirs, sweeping keyboards, and melodic guitar lines coexist with harsh vocals and blast‑driven aggression, giving the music a sense of epic struggle and doomed heroism.
The project debuted with the EP Lyric Revelation of Causality (2020), a concise but ambitious introduction that showcased Bastard of Loran’s fusion of orchestral arrangements and black metal ferocity. Later that same year, the full‑length Beckoning the Red Moon expanded the project’s scope, offering a more immersive and narrative‑driven experience. The album’s themes draw from the cyclical tragedies, cosmic horrors, and mythic conflicts of the SoulsBorne mythos, filtered through a symphonic black metal lens.
In 2022, the EP Shrouded by the Twilight continued the project’s evolution, refining its orchestral layering and deepening its atmospheric dimension. The release demonstrated a growing confidence in composition, with more dynamic structures and a stronger balance between melody and aggression.
Bastard of Loran is driven by the duo of Londor, responsible for the lyrical world‑building, and Femto, who handles vocals, guitars, and the project’s overall musical direction. Femto’s involvement in numerous other projects—Aonarach, ARNA, Luces Lejanas, Stellar Tomb, Caetran, Immateriæ, Trova De Lid—brings a wide range of influences and technical versatility, contributing to the project’s rich and cinematic sound.
Though still independent, Bastard of Loran has carved out a distinct niche within the Spanish symphonic black metal scene, offering a blend of fantasy, war‑driven narrative, and orchestral intensity that resonates with fans of both extreme metal and dark fantasy storytelling.
