Black SS Vomit emerged in 2007 from Banja Luka as one of the most abrasive and openly hostile black metal projects in the Bosnian underground. Rooted in raw, primitive production and ideologically extreme themes, the project embodied the most confrontational aspects of early Eastern European black metal. Its sound was defined by harsh, repetitive riffing, crude drum patterns and a venomous vocal approach, all wrapped in a deliberately unrefined aesthetic meant to amplify the project’s hateful and anti‑religious message.
The debut demo Lex Dei Sathanas (2007) introduced the project’s core identity: lo‑fi black metal steeped in anti‑Christian rhetoric and misanthropic worldview. The follow‑up Holocaust (2008) continued in the same vein, pushing the aggression further while maintaining the raw, hostile atmosphere that characterized the early recordings. Both demos circulated primarily through underground tape‑trading networks and small extremist labels, gaining attention among collectors of harsh, uncompromising black metal.
In 2008, the project underwent a transformation and continued under the new name 1389, marking a shift toward a more defined ideological direction while preserving the raw musical foundation established under the Black SS Vomit moniker. The compilation Lex Dei Sathanas / Holocaust (2008) served as the final document of the original incarnation, preserving the early material before the transition.
Black SS Vomit was driven almost entirely by War Jovan, a prolific multi‑instrumentalist deeply embedded in the Balkan underground. Known for his involvement in a vast number of projects across black metal, raw black metal, and related subgenres, he handled guitars, drums and eventually all instrumentation. His work across bands such as Jarac, Balkis, Flesh and Chain, Frosthvalmirr, Goat Evil, Gravthron, Nan Elmoth, Narasimha, Nekro Tomb, Prorok, Sahrana, Pogani and many others reflects the hyper‑productive and chaotic creative environment of the region’s extreme metal scene during the late 2000s.
The early lineup also included short‑term collaborators such as AlekSS on vocals (2007), known for his work in Odium Malum, Suton, Zvijer and Sahrana, and Igor on guitars (2008), who later appeared in projects like Bane, Goat Ritual and Zvijer. Their contributions helped shape the raw, aggressive identity of the band’s brief but intense existence.
Though the Black SS Vomit name was abandoned, its material remains a snapshot of a volatile period in the Bosnian underground—marked by ideological extremity, raw production values and a fiercely DIY ethos. The project’s legacy continues through 1389, which carries forward the same uncompromising spirit and sonic hostility.
