Dark Perception is a melodic black/death metal band from the Silesian towns of Zawiercie and Myszków, active since 2012 and rooted in the collaboration between a drummer from Zawiercie and a guitarist from Myszków who joined forces at the end of that year. From the beginning, the band has focused on merging the emotional weight of melodic death metal with the cold aggression and atmosphere of black metal, shaping a sound that is sharp, intense, and driven by dark melodic structures.
The core of Dark Perception has remained stable since its formation, centered around Mateusz Kukla (vocals, guitars) and Jaskier Jankiewicz (drums, backing vocals), both of whom have backgrounds in the Polish underground scene, including projects such as Spheres of Nightmare and live work with Divine Intervention. Their chemistry defines the band’s identity: Kukla’s riff‑driven songwriting and harsh vocal delivery paired with Jankiewicz’s precise, forceful drumming create a sound that is both aggressive and atmospheric. Guitarist Artur Sochaj later joined, strengthening the melodic dimension of the band’s music. Early bassist Wojciech contributed to the formative years before departing in 2016.
For several years Dark Perception operated quietly, refining their style and performing locally while developing material that would eventually shape their studio output. Their first official release came in 2022 with the single Rites, a track that introduced their blend of melodic black/death metal with tight riffing, dynamic tempo shifts, and a raw yet focused production style.
Later that same year, the band released their debut full‑length Rhadamanthus, a record that showcased their ability to balance aggression with melody. The album drew attention in the underground for its sharp guitar work, intense vocal layering, and a sense of narrative flow that hinted at mythological or infernal themes, even without explicit thematic statements from the band. Reviewers noted the album’s cohesion and the band’s clear commitment to crafting a distinctive sound within the Polish extreme metal landscape.
In 2023, Dark Perception followed with Plaguewielder, a more mature and forceful album that expanded their sonic palette. The record leaned into darker atmospheres, more intricate guitar harmonies, and a heightened sense of urgency. It was praised in underground circles for its improved production, stronger songwriting, and the band’s ability to evolve without abandoning their core identity. Plaguewielder positioned Dark Perception as one of the more promising melodic black/death acts emerging from Silesia.
Still unsigned and operating independently, the band continues to build its reputation through consistent work, a dedicated lineup, and a sound that bridges melody and extremity with conviction. Their trajectory reflects the persistence and authenticity of Poland’s underground metal scene, where Dark Perception has carved out a distinct and steadily growing presence.
