Dausa is a Vilnius‑based solo project founded in 2019 by multi‑instrumentalist Augustinas BÄ—kšta, a prolific figure in the Lithuanian extreme metal scene known for his work with Juodvarnis, Sisyphean, Black Citrus, and formerly Phrenetix and Life’s Edge. From its inception, Dausa has explored a hybrid sound that merges sludge‑laden weight, doom‑infused atmosphere, and black metal’s spiritual intensity. The project’s early singles—Rauda (2019), Angis (2020), and Prigimtis (2022)—introduced a raw, introspective aesthetic rooted in Lithuanian nature mysticism and existential reflection. These tracks were noted in underground circles for their blend of meditative pacing, harsh vocal textures, and ritualistic ambience.
Over time, Dausa evolved toward a more atmospheric and expansive direction, culminating in the 2025 EP The Great Shadow. This release marked a significant artistic leap, incorporating layered instrumentation, guest contributions from prominent Lithuanian musicians, and a more cinematic approach to composition. The EP blends black metal’s cold melodic sensibility with doom’s slow‑burn emotional gravity, enriched by spiritual and occult themes. Critics and listeners highlighted its immersive production, dynamic songwriting, and the project’s ability to balance heaviness with introspective depth.
BÄ—kšta’s background as a drummer, producer, and multi‑instrumentalist is central to Dausa’s identity. His experience across genres—black metal, progressive metal, stoner/doom, and even technical thrash—feeds into the project’s eclectic yet cohesive sound. Dausa stands out within the Lithuanian underground for its solitary creative vision, its thematic focus on inner transformation, and its ability to channel Baltic spiritual heritage into a modern extreme metal framework.
