Deathsyndrome was a short‑lived but ferocious raw black metal project from Bosnia and Herzegovina, active only in 2013 yet leaving behind one of the most violent and abrasive recordings to emerge from the region’s underground. Operating within the same chaotic creative environment that produced Cave Ritual, Deathcircle, Nigrum Ignis Circuli, Sulphuric Night and other early Black Plague Circle–adjacent acts, Deathsyndrome embodied the most primitive and hateful aspects of the Bosnian raw black metal movement.
The project’s sole release, Total Fucking Annihilation of the Human Scum (2013), is a fitting encapsulation of its ethos: a blast of lo‑fi hostility built on distorted, jagged riffing, relentless drumming and vocals drenched in venom. The demo’s sound is intentionally crude and violent, reflecting its thematic fixation on death, satanic destruction and murderous intent. Its rawness places it firmly within the lineage of early Eastern European black metal, where atmosphere and extremity outweigh technical precision.
Deathsyndrome was driven by two musicians who would go on to become central figures in the Bosnian underground. O., responsible for drums, is one of the most prolific artists in the region, later shaping the sound of Deathcircle, Cave Ritual, Night’s Majesty, Nigrum Ignis Circuli, Niteris, Obskuritatem, Sulphuric Night, VraÄŤ and many more. His drumming on the demo is chaotic and aggressive, providing the backbone for the project’s violent aesthetic.
N., handling guitars and vocals, contributed the project’s harsh riffing style and its unhinged vocal delivery. His later involvement in numerous Sarajevo‑based raw black metal acts—Deadnight, Cave Ritual, Nigrum Ignis Circuli, Sulphuric Night, Bestias, Void Prayer and others—makes Deathsyndrome an important early chapter in his artistic trajectory.
Though the band existed for only a brief moment, Deathsyndrome’s single demo has become a cult artifact among collectors of extreme Bosnian black metal. Its uncompromising ugliness, hateful atmosphere and connection to musicians who would later define an entire regional movement give it a lasting significance despite its minimal output.
