Degutas is a Vilnius‑based psychedelic black metal project driven entirely by the multi‑instrumentalist known simply as P., a long‑standing figure in the Lithuanian underground whose musical history spans black metal, neofolk, ritual ambient, and experimental rock. Emerging publicly with Demo I in 2023, Degutas immediately positioned itself as one of the most idiosyncratic and atmospheric entities in the region’s extreme metal landscape. The project blends raw black metal foundations with swirling psychedelic textures, hypnotic repetition, and a distinctly Baltic sense of mysticism.

The sound of Degutas is intentionally unrefined yet deeply immersive—lo‑fi guitars drenched in reverb, trance‑like rhythmic structures, and vocals that shift between distant howls and ritualistic murmurs. The project’s aesthetic draws from the Lithuanian esoteric tradition, nature‑based spirituality, and the introspective, dreamlike qualities found in the more experimental corners of black metal. Demo I was received in underground circles as a promising and unusually atmospheric debut, praised for its hallucinatory ambience and its refusal to conform to genre expectations.

P.’s extensive background in the Lithuanian scene informs the project’s eclecticism. His past involvement in bands such as Letarg, Peorth, UgnÄ—lakis, Andaja, Ĺ˝alvarinis, and the ritual‑folk collective Kulgrinda reveals a musician deeply rooted in both metal and Baltic cultural expression. This broad creative lineage manifests in Degutas as a fusion of raw extremity and spiritual introspection, positioning the project as a unique voice within Lithuania’s evolving black metal movement.

Though still early in its development, Degutas has already cultivated a cult following for its atmospheric depth, psychedelic edge, and uncompromising DIY ethos. With only one demo released so far, the project remains shrouded in mystery, leaving listeners anticipating future expansions of its hallucinatory black metal vision.
