Dereliction emerged in 2007 from Vilnius as one of the more unusual and forward‑leaning projects in the Lithuanian extreme metal underground. Rather than adhering to traditional black or death metal structures, the band pursued a dissonant, experimental direction marked by jagged riffing, shifting tempos, and an atmosphere steeped in psychological tension. Their music reflected the themes they embraced—mental instability, urban suffocation, and the alienation of modern life—translated into abrasive textures and unpredictable songwriting.

Throughout their existence, Dereliction remained a deeply underground act, performing sporadically and releasing only a single official recording, the 2013 EP Ambivalence. Despite its limited distribution, the EP gained attention among local listeners for its raw yet intricate approach: angular guitar work, oppressive rhythmic patterns, and vocals that oscillated between tortured black metal shrieks and guttural death metal tones. The production retained a gritty, unpolished edge that reinforced the band’s thematic focus on decay and inner turmoil.

Members Laimis, Simas K., and Vaidotas D. were all active in other Lithuanian projects, bringing a wide range of influences into Dereliction’s sound. Their backgrounds in bands such as Nyksta, Faršas, and Lucifer contributed to the project’s hybrid identity—part black metal, part death metal, part avant‑garde experiment. Live performances were rare but intense, often featuring additional musicians such as Valdas on bass, further emphasizing the collective, shifting nature of the project.

By 2013, shortly after the release of Ambivalence, the band ceased activity without an official statement. Their dissolution left behind a small but distinctive legacy: a single release that captured a moment of creative unrest within the Lithuanian scene, and a reputation for pushing boundaries rather than conforming to genre expectations.
