Diversia was a short‑lived but distinctive folk metal band from Tallinn, active between 1995 and 2000, during a period when the Estonian metal scene was still in its formative stages. Their music blended traditional folk‑influenced melodies with rock and metal instrumentation, creating a sound that leaned more toward atmospheric folk rock/metal than the harsher pagan or blackened folk styles that would later emerge in the region. With a strong emphasis on melody, acoustic textures, and dual female vocals, Diversia stood out as one of the few Estonian bands of the era exploring folk elements through a softer, more lyrical lens.

The group underwent several lineup changes throughout its existence, particularly in the rhythm section, but its core identity was shaped by the interplay between guitarists/vocalists Anastasia Jung and Darja Tanasenko, whose voices and songwriting formed the emotional center of the band. Keyboards, provided by Elina, added a pastoral, sometimes mystical atmosphere, while the use of percussion rather than traditional drum kits in later years gave their music a more organic, ritualistic feel.

Their only known recording, Promo 1999, captured the band at its most mature stage. Though never widely distributed, the demo circulated within the Estonian underground and showcased Diversia’s melodic sensibility, folk‑driven arrangements, and the interplay of clean vocals with gentle guitar work. The band also appeared on the compilation Eesti Metali Ensiklopöödia Nr. 1 (2000) with the track “Rain Song,” which remains their most accessible and documented piece of music. This compilation appearance helped preserve their legacy as part of Estonia’s early folk‑metal experimentation.

Diversia disbanded around 2000, leaving behind only a small recorded footprint but a notable role in the early diversification of Estonian metal. Their work represents a rare example of female‑fronted folk metal from the Baltic region during the 1990s, blending introspective moods with a distinctly local melodic sensibility.
