Druun is a Rigaābased doom/death/folk metal band formed in 2018, dedicated to exploring Baltic mythology through a heavy, atmospheric, and deeply rooted musical approach. The band introduced themselves with a 2019 demo, quickly followed by the single Veļu Laiks and their debut fullālength of the same name. The album established Druun as a rising force in the Baltic metal scene, praised for its evocative atmosphere, dynamic songwriting, and the seamless integration of folk instrumentationāparticularly recorder, Ģīga, and percussive texturesāinto a heavy metal framework. Critics noted the band’s ability to evoke the somber, spiritual tone of Baltic autumn rituals and the mythic realm of the dead, themes central to the concept of Veļu laiks.
Druun continued to refine their sound with the 2022 single KrituÅ”iem, a track that showcased a more polished production and a stronger emphasis on melodic development. Their contribution “Mūžības dzÄ«slas” to the compilation Latvijas MetÄls 3 (2023) further expanded their visibility within the Latvian scene, highlighting their commitment to representing local heritage through metal.
