Dysthymia Chronica was a short‑lived but emotionally charged depressive black metal project from Transnistria, active only between 2022 and 2023. Despite its brief existence, the band carved out a distinct identity within the region’s underground by focusing on deeply personal themes—nostalgia, emotional decay, lost love, and the slow suffocation of depression. Their sound blended raw DSBM aesthetics with a more melodic, introspective edge, creating music that felt intimate, wounded, and unfiltered.

The project’s sole release, the self‑titled Dysthymia Chronica EP (2023), captured this emotional landscape with stark guitar lines, mournful melodies, and anguished vocals. The EP’s atmosphere leans heavily into memory and melancholy, evoking a sense of longing for something irretrievably lost. While raw in production, the material carries a sincerity that resonated with listeners drawn to the more vulnerable side of depressive black metal.

The lineup consisted of four musicians, each contributing to the project’s fragile and introspective sound:

These overlapping connections with other Transnistrian underground acts—especially the raw, solitary projects associated with Odnonogiy Muzhichok—situate Dysthymia Chronica within a small but emotionally intense creative circle.

The band dissolved quietly in 2023, leaving behind only one EP but a clear imprint: a snapshot of depressive black metal shaped by memory, sorrow, and the emotional isolation characteristic of the region’s underground.
