Efflux Acid is an atmospheric doom/sludge metal project founded in 2020 in Warsaw by the Ukrainian multi‑instrumentalist Markun, who composes, performs, and produces all material himself. Emerging from the intersection of post‑Soviet introspection and the bleak urban sprawl of Poland’s capital, the project channels a dense, slow‑burning heaviness shaped by droning bass lines, cavernous guitar textures, and a meditative sense of repetition. Though rooted in sludge and doom, Efflux Acid leans toward an atmospheric, almost psychedelic approach, favoring long-form development and immersive sonic layering over traditional riff‑driven structures.
The debut EP Circles of Voyage (2021) was recorded live at Mavak Studio in Warsaw and showcases Markun’s holistic control of the project—handling bass, drums, guitars, and production. The release explores the idea of a vast, infinite journey, expressed through shifting frequencies and waves that evoke both physical travel and inner transformation. Tracks like “Trip Advisor” and “Influx” move between hypnotic grooves and heavier, suffocating passages, while “Humility oder Gloom” and “Postermo Fluctu” introduce a more introspective, almost ritualistic atmosphere. The EP’s raw, unpolished recording approach enhances its sense of immediacy, capturing the project’s live energy and improvisational undercurrents.
Critically, Circles of Voyage has been noted in underground circles for its unusual blend of sludge weight and ambient spaciousness, drawing comparisons to experimental doom acts that prioritize mood and texture over aggression. The project’s visual aesthetic—shaped in part by artist Ximik (Serhii Solohubov)—reinforces its cosmic, exploratory themes. With no label affiliation and complete creative autonomy, Efflux Acid remains a deeply personal endeavor, reflecting Markun’s evolving sonic identity as a Ukrainian expatriate forging his own path within Poland’s experimental metal landscape.
