Elder Oak was a short‑lived black metal project from Šiauliai, active around the early 2010s and known primarily for its 2013 EP simply titled I. Although little information about the band has surfaced publicly, the release gained attention within the Lithuanian underground for its raw, atmospheric approach and its emphasis on cold, traditional black metal aesthetics. The music on I is characterized by sharp, tremolo‑driven riffing, ritualistic drumming, and harsh, commanding vocals, capturing the spirit of early second‑wave black metal while maintaining a distinctly Baltic tone.

The trio behind Elder Oak—Ugnies BĹ«gnai on drums, LiĹ«tas handling guitars and bass, and Lord Matas on vocals—crafted a sound steeped in bleakness and minimalism. Their work evokes imagery of desolate forests, ancient rites, and the stark northern atmosphere typical of Lithuanian black metal’s early underground. The EP’s production is intentionally raw, allowing the riffs and vocals to dominate the soundscape without modern polish, which contributed to its cult appeal among collectors of obscure Baltic black metal.

Despite the promise shown on their debut, Elder Oak disappeared from public activity shortly afterward. No further releases, performances, or official statements followed, leaving the project’s status uncertain. Their lone EP remains a snapshot of a brief but evocative presence in Lithuania’s black metal history—an obscure, atmospheric work that reflects the region’s affinity for cold, uncompromising extremity.
