Fadheit was formed in 2018 in Åódź as a deeply personal depressive black metal project built around the vision of Selbstmord, whose songwriting channeled themes of suicide, trauma, anxiety, and emotional collapse into stark, suffocating soundscapes. The project’s nameâGerman for “dullness”âcaptured its core aesthetic: a world drained of color, weighed down by numbness, and haunted by the quiet violence of inner suffering. From the beginning, Fadheit embraced a raw, intimate approach to DSBM, favoring minimalist structures, mournful melodies, and vocals that oscillated between whispered despair and agonized screams.
The early phase of the band was entirely driven by Selbstmord, who handled vocals, guitars, and bass, with drummer Murukh (Odium Humani Generis) providing the rhythmic backbone. Their debut EP Stilleben (2018) introduced a sound steeped in depressive atmosphereâicy tremolo lines, fragile clean passages, and lyrics that confronted selfâdestruction with unfiltered honesty. The EP resonated strongly within the underground, praised for its sincerity and emotional weight.
With Inhaling the Trauma (2020), Fadheit reached a wider audience. Released through Talheim Records Germany, the album expanded the project’s sonic palette while retaining its core bleakness. The production was clearer, the compositions more layered, and the emotional intensity even more pronounced. Critics noted the album’s ability to balance melodic melancholy with raw, cathartic eruptions, placing Fadheit among the more compelling voices in modern DSBM. The record’s themesâpsychological decay, suffocating anxiety, and the cyclical nature of traumaâwere delivered with a level of vulnerability that set the project apart.
In 2021, the lineup expanded with the arrival of bassist Vikk Vandall, drummer Konrad BiÅczyk, and guitarist Naymar, giving Fadheit a fuller, more dynamic sound. This period marked the band’s most active and collaborative phase, though the emotional core remained anchored in Selbstmord’s songwriting.
Tragically, the project came to an end in 2022 with the death of Selbstmord. His passing cast a long shadow over the band’s legacy, and Fadheit was formally dissolved. The posthumous EP Afterglow (2023) served as a final echoâan intimate, mournful release that preserved the last fragments of his creative output. It stands as both a farewell and a testament to the emotional depth he brought to the genre.
Though shortâlived, Fadheit left a lasting mark on the Polish DSBM scene: a project defined by sincerity, vulnerability, and the unfiltered expression of psychological suffering. Its small but powerful discography remains a stark reminder of the human fragility at the heart of depressive black metal.
