Hagorun is one of the newest manifestations within the Sarajevo underground, yet it already stands apart from the raw, hostile aesthetic that defines most of the city’s black metal lineage. Formed in 2022, the project channels a pagan/black metal approach rooted in nature mysticism, spiritual introspection and a sense of ancient, windswept grandeur. While still unmistakably tied to the Bosnian raw black metal ethos, Hagorun expands the emotional palette: where Cave Ritual or Deathcircle evoke claustrophobic decay, Hagorun opens outward—toward forests, storms, and the spiritual presence of the natural world.

The debut EP March of the Storm (2022), released through New Era Productions, introduced this vision with surprising clarity. The music blends raw black metal riffing with melodic, atmospheric passages, creating a sense of movement and elemental force. The production remains rough enough to retain underground authenticity, but the songwriting leans toward the epic and the evocative rather than the purely abrasive. Thematically, the EP orbits around nature’s violence and beauty—storms as spiritual entities, landscapes as living forces, and the human spirit as something shaped by the natural world.

Behind Hagorun stands O., one of the most prolific and influential figures in the Bosnian black metal scene. His involvement in Cave Ritual, Deathcircle, Night’s Majesty, Nigrum Ignis Circuli, Niteris, Obskuritatem, Sulphuric Night, VraÄŤ and many others has shaped the sound of Sarajevo’s underground for more than a decade. Hagorun represents a different facet of his creative identity: less suffocating, more expansive; less focused on spiritual decay, more on spiritual awakening through nature’s violence and solitude.

Hagorun remains active, and given O.’s history of evolving and expanding his projects, the future likely holds further exploration of pagan atmospheres, natural mysticism and melodic black metal expression.
