Head Not Found was a short‑lived black/death metal band from Tallinn, active in the mid‑2000s and composed of musicians deeply rooted in the Estonian extreme‑metal underground. Formed in 2005, the band operated with a raw, aggressive sound that fused the chaotic edge of black metal with the heavier, more percussive elements of death metal. Their music reflected the DIY ethos of the era—unpolished, forceful, and driven by the members’ experience in other prominent local acts.
The band’s only known release, the self‑titled Head Not Found demo (2008), captured their harsh, straightforward approach: tremolo‑driven riffing, blasting percussion, and a vocal delivery steeped in the grim, hostile aesthetics of early 2000s Estonian black metal. Though the demo remained underground and never received wide distribution, it circulated among local fans and tape‑traders, preserving the band’s brief but intense presence in the scene.
Head Not Found’s lineup was notable for its connections to several influential Estonian bands. Guitarist/bassist/vocalist Necrovlad—the band’s central figure—was already known for his work in Grom, Bestia, Ecthalion, and Rattler, bringing a strong black‑metal pedigree to the project. Guitarist Burzum and drummer Thrasher, both ex‑Mater Tenebra members, contributed to the band’s heavier, death‑metal‑leaning edge. Earlier in the band’s history, guitarist Kostyl’ (also ex‑Mater Tenebra) was part of the initial formation before departing in 2006.
Although Head Not Found disbanded quietly and left behind only a single demo, the project remains a small but distinct fragment of Estonia’s mid‑2000s underground—a raw, aggressive collaboration between musicians who would continue shaping the country’s extreme‑metal landscape through their other bands.
