Malevolum is one of the darkest, most suffocating entities within the Sarajevo underground, and one of the few Black Plague Circle projects to be embraced by Black Gangrene Productions, a label synonymous with the most uncompromising raw black metal worldwide. That alone tells you where Malevolum stands: at the intersection of BPC’s spiritual rot and Black Gangrene’s cavernous extremity.
Where many BPC projects orbit around urban decay (Izrod), ritualistic collapse (Cave Ritual), or folkloric terror (Obskuritatem), Malevolum is the Circle’s void‑dweller—a project defined by spiritual absence, negative space, and the oppressive weight of nothingness. Its sound is cold, hollow, and merciless, built on:
Malevolum is not violent; it is empty. Not chaotic; but void‑driven. It is black metal as a slow, crushing descent into absence.
In Absentia Lucis (2018)
The debut, and a defining statement. The title—In the Absence of Light—captures the project’s essence perfectly. This is black metal stripped of transcendence, stripped of hope, stripped even of rage. A suffocating, hollow, spiritually dead atmosphere dominates every second.
Veritas et Violentiam (2020)
A darker, more refined continuation. The sound becomes heavier, more oppressive, more deliberate. The album feels like a philosophical descent—truth and violence intertwined, revelation through annihilation. It is one of the most mature and fully realized BPC‑affiliated releases.
Malevolum’s lineup is not publicly credited, but its sonic fingerprints unmistakably place it within the inner core of the Black Plague Circle. The project’s atmosphere, pacing, and compositional style strongly suggest involvement from the same creative forces behind:
However, unlike those projects, Malevolum maintains a stricter veil of anonymity, allowing the music to exist as a pure manifestation of void‑spirituality rather than a node in the Circle’s personal network.
Malevolum is the Circle’s philosophical abyss—a project that rejects the emotional and narrative frameworks found in other BPC entities. It is:
Instead, it is pure negation, a study in absence, a collapse of meaning.
This is why Black Gangrene embraced it: Malevolum fits perfectly into the label’s tradition of spiritually annihilating black metal.
