Nan Elmoth is one of the earliest and most evocative Tolkien‑themed black metal projects to emerge from the Bosnian underground. Named after the enchanted forest in The Silmarillion—the place of Eöl, of shadows, of enchantment and doom—the project channels a very specific atmosphere: mystical, nocturnal, melancholic, and rooted in the mythic darkness of Middle‑earth.

It is also one of the earliest creative vessels of Vožd Jovan Pogani, the hyper‑prolific Banja Luka figure whose later projects (Jarac, Frosthvalmirr, Goat Evil, Pogani, etc.) would define an entire raw black metal lineage. Nan Elmoth represents his Tolkienic phase, before the later descent into feral blasphemy and raw extremity.

The band existed in two distinct incarnations:

I. The First Era (2005–2007)

A small but active lineup, producing rehearsal‑grade material steeped in Tolkien’s mythos.

Rehearsal 1 (Nan Elmoth) — Demo, 2006

Raw, atmospheric, and primitive.
The sound is closer to early Eastern European Tolkien‑inspired black metal—cold, melodic, and forest‑bound.

Unreleased video: “Sutona Ĺ uma”

A rare artifact: a video recorded for a song that never saw official release.
The title (“Forest of Twilight”) fits perfectly into the project’s mythic‑nocturnal aesthetic.

Lineup (2005–2007)

Vožd Jovan Pogani – Drums
A young but already prolific figure, later the architect of dozens of raw black metal projects.

Nikola Bošnjak – Guitars, backing vocals
A key contributor to the early melodic direction.

Ana Bogdanović – Bass (2007–2008)
Joined near the end of the first era.

Miodrag Simić – Guitars (2007–2008)
Also connected to the early Sahrana circle.

II. The Second Era (2009–?)

Nan Elmoth is revived as a solo project under VoĹľd Jovan Pogani.

Rehearsal 2 (Thorin’s Funeral) — Demo, 2010

A darker, more mournful recording.
The Tolkien influence becomes more explicit—funeral, fate, dwarven tragedy.
The sound is rawer, more solitary, more aligned with Pogani’s later aesthetic.

Lineup (2009–?)

Vožd Jovan Pogani – All instruments
This era marks the transition from a band to a personal, hermetic project.

Position in the Bosnian Underground

Nan Elmoth is a precursor—a seed from which an entire Banja Luka lineage would grow:

Nan Elmoth is not a major or prolific band, but it is a foundational artifact—a glimpse into the formative years of one of the region’s most prolific underground creators.
