Nebula was a short‑lived but distinctive presence in the mid‑1990s Lithuanian underground, active primarily around Ĺ ilutÄ— and TauragÄ—. Formed in 1995, the band emerged during a formative period for the country’s extreme metal scene, when many young musicians were experimenting with hybrid sounds that blended black metal’s harshness with doom metal’s weight and melancholy. Nebula fit squarely within this movement, crafting a sound built on slow, mournful riffs, atmospheric keyboards, and the unusual addition of violin—an element that gave their music a uniquely sorrowful, almost neoclassical edge.

Their only known release, the Dies Irae demo (1995), circulated in very limited quantities but left a strong impression on those who encountered it. The recording showcased a band leaning heavily into doom‑laden structures while maintaining the rawness and emotional intensity of early black metal. The interplay between IndrÄ—’s keyboards and Nerius’ violin created a somber, ritualistic atmosphere uncommon in Lithuania at the time, while Aušrius’ vocals and guitar work provided the harsher, more abrasive counterpoint. The demo’s title—Latin for “Day of Wrath”—reflected its apocalyptic tone and thematic weight.

Nebula’s lineup brought together musicians with diverse backgrounds and later trajectories. Some members remained active in the Lithuanian underground, while vocalist/guitarist Aušrius eventually became associated with the Irish pagan black metal band Eternal Helcaraxe, marking one of the rare instances of a Lithuanian 1990s underground musician later joining an internationally recognized act.

Although Nebula disbanded quietly and left behind only a single demo, their contribution remains a small but intriguing fragment of Lithuania’s early extreme metal history—an example of the experimentation and emotional depth that characterized the country’s mid‑90s scene.
