Path of Sorrow is an obscure symphonic black metal project from Rožaje, active from 2009 with very little public documentation. The project stands out within Montenegro’s underground for its melancholic, apocalyptic atmosphere and its fusion of raw black metal elements with dramatic symphonic layers. While the Montenegrin scene is generally known for its raw, primitive black metal, Path of Sorrow leaned toward a more melodic and orchestral direction, creating a sound that is both mournful and grandiose.
The band’s only known release, the 2013 demo When Everything Disappears, encapsulates this aesthetic. The recording blends sorrow‑laden keyboard arrangements with harsh vocals and cold guitar work, evoking themes of death, spiritual collapse, and the end of all things. The demo’s title reflects the project’s fixation on existential finality and emotional desolation. Though the production is raw—as expected from an independent Montenegrin release—the symphonic elements give the music a sense of scale and tragic beauty.
Path of Sorrow appears to have been a one‑person project, with Damir Agović handling all instruments and composition. His work suggests a solitary creative process, channeling personal sorrow and apocalyptic imagery into a bleak yet atmospheric soundscape. No further releases, interviews, or activity have been documented, leaving the project’s later status unknown.
Despite its limited output, Path of Sorrow occupies a unique niche in Montenegro’s black metal history: a rare example of symphonic black metal emerging from a region dominated by raw extremity. Its lone demo remains a small but evocative artifact of the country’s underground.
