Porenut is a pagan/folk metal project from Opole founded in 2012, driven entirely by the multi鈥慽nstrumentalist Nomad, who composes, performs, and produces all material. From the outset, Porenut has been rooted in Slavic mythology, ancestral memory, and the spiritual landscapes of pre鈥慍hristian Poland. The project’s sound blends melodic pagan metal with folk鈥慽nspired motifs, atmospheric passages, and a strong narrative sensibility, often evoking ancient rites, warrior traditions, and the mythic forces of nature. Nomad’s approach is characterized by clarity of composition, emotional directness, and a balance between aggression and melody, giving Porenut a distinct identity within the Polish pagan metal underground.
The debut album Veles/Weles (2014) introduced Porenut’s thematic and musical foundations, focusing on the chthonic deity Veles and the duality of the earthly and spiritual realms. Its raw yet melodic style earned attention from underground listeners for its sincerity and mythological depth. Sklaweni (2016) expanded the project’s historical scope, exploring the early Slavic tribes and their cultural identity through more refined songwriting and stronger folk elements.
With Duch g贸r (2017), Porenut shifted toward a more atmospheric and nature鈥憃riented direction, invoking mountain spirits, wilderness, and the sacred geography of Slavic lands. The album was noted for its evocative melodies and immersive mood. W臋drowiec (2019) continued this evolution, presenting a more introspective journey through folklore and spiritual wandering, with Nomad’s compositions becoming increasingly layered and expressive.
Plamy wojny (2021) marked a return to more martial themes, exploring conflict, ancestral struggle, and the scars of history. The singles “Zapomniany b贸g” and “Szczodruszka” (2022) demonstrated Porenut’s ability to shift between darker, ritualistic tones and more celebratory folk鈥慽nspired material tied to seasonal rites.
The full鈥憀ength Korzenie bog贸w (2023) stands as one of the project’s most ambitious works, delving into the mythic origins of the Slavic pantheon with a richer instrumental palette and more dynamic arrangements. Its reception within the underground highlighted Nomad’s growth as a composer and storyteller.
Porenut’s 2025 album Rytu艂a艂 continues this trajectory, embracing ritualistic structures, deeper atmospheric layers, and a more mature exploration of Slavic spirituality. The album reinforces the project’s identity as a solitary yet expansive voice in modern pagan metal鈥攎elodic, mythic, and deeply rooted in cultural heritage.
Across its entire discography, Porenut remains defined by Nomad’s singular vision: a dedication to Slavic mythology, a melodic and atmospheric approach to pagan metal, and a commitment to crafting music that honors ancestral tradition while continually evolving.
