Prophet was a short‑lived folk/symphonic metal project from Radomsko, founded in 1997 and centered entirely on the work of multi‑instrumentalist Beniamin Skowroński. Operating during a formative period for Polish underground metal, Prophet explored a blend of melodic, keyboard‑driven symphonic metal and folk‑tinged atmospheres, relying heavily on Skowroński’s compositional vision and his ability to layer guitars, keyboards, and orchestral textures into compact, narrative‑oriented demos.
The project’s earliest recording, Somewhere and Nowhare (1997), introduced a sound rooted in fantasy‑tinged symphonic metal, with prominent keyboard arrangements and a melodic sensibility that set Prophet apart from the harsher black and pagan metal emerging in Poland at the time. The follow‑up demo Symphony of Darkness (1998) leaned further into orchestral elements, showcasing Skowroński’s interest in dramatic, cinematic structures and his growing command of multi‑instrumental arrangement.
With Wanderland (2001), Prophet expanded its folk dimension, incorporating more atmospheric passages and melodic motifs inspired by mythic or pastoral themes. The demo displayed a more refined balance between metal instrumentation and symphonic layering, hinting at a direction that could have evolved into a fully realized folk‑symphonic style.
The final release, Unnamed World of Sound (2002), stands as the project’s most ambitious work—an exploration of instrumental storytelling, keyboard‑driven landscapes, and melodic experimentation. Though still raw and demo‑level in production, it reflects Skowroński’s desire to craft immersive, emotionally expressive music without the constraints of a full band.
After 2002, Prophet quietly dissolved, leaving behind a small but intriguing body of work that captures a moment when Polish underground musicians were experimenting with symphonic and folk‑infused metal outside the dominant black and pagan scenes. Prophet remains a minor but distinctive footnote in that era: a solitary creative endeavor built on atmosphere, melody, and the imaginative reach of one musician.
