Regressive was one of Vilnius’ most energetic and unrestrained black/speed metal bands, active from 2008 until entering hiatus in 2022. Their sound fused the frantic riffing and swagger of early speed metal with the abrasive edge of black metal—fast, chaotic, and drenched in the aesthetics of horror, sleaze, and underground excess. Across their active years, Regressive became a staple of Lithuania’s raw, high‑energy live circuit, known for performances that leaned into the genre’s reckless spirit.
The band’s early output consisted of two splits—Graveyard Assault (2010) and Turmoil and Misery (2014)—both of which showcased their raw, aggressive approach and helped establish their presence in the Baltic underground. Their collaborative release As Hammer to Anvil (2018) continued this trajectory, pairing them with like‑minded acts and reinforcing their identity as a band rooted in the old‑school black/speed tradition.
Regressive reached their peak with the full‑length Born in the Grave (2019), released through Defense Records. The album delivered a more cohesive and forceful version of their sound: razor‑sharp riffs, venomous vocals, and a relentless pace that drew from the lineage of early black/thrash pioneers. The record remains their defining statement.
The band also contributed a cover of “Swing of the Axe” to the 2016 tribute compilation A Tribute to Possessed: Seven Burning Churches, further cementing their connection to the classic extreme metal canon.
Though currently on hold, Regressive’s members remain active across the Lithuanian scene, and the band’s legacy persists through their recordings and the projects they helped influence.
