Reverence were a short‑lived but intense black metal project from Luxembourg, active during the late 2000s and centered around a harsh, orthodox approach to the genre. Emerging from Grevenmacher, the band embraced a cold, aggressive sound rooted in traditional black metal, with lyrical themes focused on Satanism and spiritual negation. Their music carried the hallmarks of the Luxembourgish underground: raw production, uncompromising hostility and a tight‑knit lineup drawn from other extreme metal acts in the region.

Their sole full‑length, In Memoriam (2009), stands as the band’s only known release and the defining document of their existence. The album delivered a bleak, aggressive form of black metal built on tremolo‑driven guitar work, relentless drumming and a vocal performance steeped in venom and ritualistic intensity. The atmosphere was stark and unforgiving, with a focus on purity of form rather than experimentation. In Memoriam circulated primarily within underground networks and became a cult item due to its scarcity and the tragic death of vocalist Styxx in 2009, shortly after the album’s release.

Reverence’s lineup featured musicians already active in Luxembourg’s extreme metal scene. Zernebog handled guitars, crafting the icy riffing that defined the band’s sound. Porphyion provided drums, delivering a tight and forceful rhythmic foundation. Styxx, known for his work in Deformation Guaranteed and Black Candle, contributed vocals marked by raw intensity and spiritual ferocity. His passing in 2009 effectively ended the project, leaving In Memoriam as both a debut and an epitaph.

Though their existence was brief, Reverence remain a notable entry in Luxembourg’s black metal history—a project that embodied the uncompromising, Satanic spirit of the genre and left behind a single, stark monument to the darker side of the country’s underground.
