Rikavac is one of Montenegro’s most chaotic and deliberately provocative extreme metal bands, formed in Bar at the beginning of summer 2014. Their name comes from a local river—Rikavac, meaning “roarer”—a fitting metaphor for the band’s abrasive, noisy, and confrontational sound. Blending thrash, death, and black metal with a punk‑inflected sense of mockery and social derision, Rikavac has carved out a distinct identity within the Balkan underground.
The band’s lyrical themes revolve around ridicule, hatred, sexual grotesquery, and social criticism, often delivered with a tongue‑in‑cheek brutality that borders on satirical extremity. Musically, Rikavac favors raw production, aggressive riffing, and a relentless pace, aligning them with the more unfiltered corners of the regional extreme metal scene. Their work is intentionally abrasive, rejecting refinement in favor of immediacy and attitude.
Rikavac has been consistently active since their formation, releasing a steady stream of singles, EPs, and a full‑length album. Their 2015 output—Ktulu, Rika se ÄŤini, and Alternativka—established their sound early on, while the 2017 self‑titled full‑length Rikavac solidified their place in Montenegro’s underground. The band also contributed to the 2017 compilation Serbia Goes Heavy Vol. 2 with the track “Whore Will Not Come Home Tonight,” one of their most widely circulated songs.
In addition to their main discography, Rikavac released a split with Govnitory in 2015 titled Rika govana, further cementing their reputation for irreverence and shock‑driven humor. Their later singles, including Sterilize (2020) and Blinded by Their Fate (202?), show the band continuing to evolve while maintaining their trademark hostility and sardonic edge.
Despite their raw sound and provocative themes, Rikavac has built a loyal following in the Balkan underground, supported by their own label, RikavacRecords, and a consistent lineup that has remained intact since 2014.
