Skraj is a Warsaw‑based post‑black metal band formed in 2019, built around a modern, emotionally charged approach to the genre that blends atmospheric tension with sharp, expressive guitar work. Emerging from the Mazovian underground, the band quickly developed a sound rooted in contrast: harsh vocals against melodic undercurrents, driving rhythms against spacious, introspective passages. Their music carries the hallmarks of contemporary post‑black metal—dynamic shifts, layered guitars, and a sense of restless momentum—while maintaining a raw edge that reflects their early DIY origins.
The project began as the vision of Jan P, who handled vocals and guitars from the outset. His songwriting established Skraj’s core identity: melancholic yet forceful, atmospheric yet grounded in black metal’s emotional intensity. The lineup expanded over the next few years, bringing greater depth and cohesion. Mateusz P joined on bass in 2021, followed by lead guitarist Kamil U, whose melodic phrasing and expressive leads added a new dimension to the band’s sound. In 2022, drummer Antoni P and rhythm guitarist Maciej G completed the formation, giving Skraj a full, dynamic lineup capable of translating their studio atmosphere into a powerful live presence.
Their debut EP, KorzeĹ„ ĹĽycia (2020), introduced the band’s aesthetic: a blend of atmospheric melancholy, post‑metal expansiveness, and black metal urgency. The release showcased their ability to balance aggression with introspection, weaving emotional weight into each track without sacrificing intensity. Though concise, the EP positioned Skraj as a promising new voice in Poland’s post‑black metal landscape.
Still active and evolving, Skraj continues to refine their sound—expanding their melodic vocabulary, deepening their atmospheric layers, and carving out a distinct identity within the modern Polish extreme metal scene.
