Soerd is one of the sharper, more atmospheric voices in Tallinn’s post‑2020 black metal wave—a project that balances rawness with melody, and minimalism with a sense of cold, folkloric mood. Formed in 2021, the band quickly aligned itself with Lyndanise Coven, a label known for cultivating the more esoteric and introspective corners of the Estonian underground. Soerd’s sound is rooted in traditional black metal, but with a distinctly modern Estonian edge: melancholic, forest‑bound, and emotionally restrained rather than chaotic.

Their debut demo Hel (2021) introduced the project with a raw, stripped‑down aesthetic—icy riffs, distant vocals, and a sense of isolation that felt very much in line with the Tallinn micro‑scene’s emerging identity. The 2023 EP Mil laaned vaikivad (“When the forests fall silent”) expanded their palette, adding more atmospheric layering and a clearer sense of songwriting direction. The upcoming full‑length Keldrikojast (2025) appears poised to be their most complete statement yet, likely deepening their blend of melody, coldness, and introspective black metal mood.

The band’s lineup is compact but musically dense. Siim handles guitars, drums, keyboards, and part of the vocals—essentially the project’s compositional backbone—while Erik anchors the low end and shares vocal duties. The addition of Raiko on guitars in 2022 strengthened the project’s live and studio presence, bringing in experience from Deceitome and Intrepid.

Soerd fits neatly into the modern Tallinn black metal constellation: atmospheric but not soft, raw but not primitive, and driven by a small circle of multi‑instrumentalists who value craft over visibility.
