Sorrowful is a depressive black metal project from Quito, Ecuador, active since 2011 and created by the prolific multi‑instrumentalist known as The Lone Depressive. The project is one of the most emblematic expressions of Ecuadorian DSBM, rooted in themes of suicide, sorrow, depression, and misanthropy, and characterized by raw production, minimalist structures, and emotionally devastating atmospheres.
Sorrowful’s earliest recordings were created in complete isolation, a defining trait of the project’s aesthetic. The debut demo Demo 1… Solitude, Depression and Suicide was explicitly recorded “in total solitude, sorrow and depression,” emphasizing the project’s commitment to emotional authenticity.
