Suša is one of the most elusive and uncompromising entities within the Bosnian Black Plague Circle, a collective known for its raw, hostile, and deeply atmospheric approach to black metal. Although little is publicly documented about the project’s origins or formation, Suša emerged fully formed with a sound rooted in primitive ferocity, ritualistic repetition, and the stark, desolate aura characteristic of the Circle’s aesthetic. The project’s anonymity and refusal to engage with promotion or social presence have only strengthened its cult status.
The sole full‑length, Velike zvijeri (2021), released through Black Gangrene Productions, immediately positioned Suša as one of the most potent voices in the Balkan underground. The album is a dense, suffocating work built on relentless tremolo riffs, cavernous vocals, and a production style that embraces decay and obscurity. Its atmosphere evokes barren landscapes, predatory instinct, and the primal violence of nature—fitting for a project whose name translates to “drought,” suggesting desolation, scarcity, and spiritual erosion. The record was praised in underground circles for its intensity and its ability to channel the raw, unfiltered spirit of early Eastern European black metal while maintaining a distinct identity.
Suša’s connection to the Black Plague Circle places it alongside some of the most influential raw black metal projects of the last decade, including Obskuritatem, Void Prayer, Sulphuric Night, Niteris, and VraÄŤ. Within this constellation, Suša stands out for its singular focus and its refusal to dilute its vision with ambient or melodic elements. The music is stark, violent, and ritualistic—black metal stripped to its most essential and hostile form.
Behind the project is A., a prolific musician deeply embedded in the Bosnian underground. His work across numerous bands—Izrod, Niteris, VraÄŤ, and live roles in Arjen, Obskuritatem, and Sulphuric Night—has shaped the sound of the region’s extreme metal scene. Suša represents one of his most focused and feral expressions, a project defined by instinct, atmosphere, and uncompromising devotion to raw black metal.
Despite its minimal discography, Suša has secured a firm place within the modern raw black metal canon, its presence felt through the intensity of its single full‑length and its alignment with one of the most respected underground circles in contemporary black metal.
