Ueldes—known as Veldes until 2022—is one of Slovenia’s most evocative atmospheric black metal projects, shaped entirely by multi‑instrumentalist Tilen Ĺ imon. The project’s name originally referenced an archaic medieval term describing the vast, mist‑covered landscapes of Bled, a fitting metaphor for the music’s emotional and geographical roots. When the project transitioned to the name Ueldes, it retained the same artistic spirit: introspective, nature‑bound, and steeped in melancholy.

From the beginning, Veldes/Ueldes has been defined by a deeply personal approach to atmospheric black metal. Tilen’s compositions weave together sorrowful tremolo melodies, expansive ambient passages, and a sense of longing tied to the forests, rivers, and mountains of the Eastern Alps. His music often feels like a solitary walk through fog‑shrouded valleys—quiet, reflective, and emotionally heavy.

The debut full‑length To Drown in Bleeding Hope (2013) set the tone: mournful, melodic, and drenched in despair. The Skyward EP (2014) and the Black Autumn / Veldes split (2015) expanded the project’s atmospheric palette, while Descent (2015) and Ember Breather (2016) showcased a more refined balance between black metal intensity and ambient melancholy.

With The Bitterness Prophecy (2017) and Storm Borrower (2018), Veldes deepened its emotional resonance, crafting music that felt both intimate and vast. Flameless (2019) and the compilation The Skyward Descent (2021) further solidified the project’s reputation as one of Slovenia’s most expressive atmospheric black metal voices.

The final album under the Veldes name, Foreverer (2022), marked the end of an era and the beginning of Ueldes. The transition was subtle but symbolic: a renewal of identity without abandoning the project’s core emotional and aesthetic foundations.

Under the new name, Ueldes released The Veil of Mountains (2024), a work that continues the project’s devotion to nature‑bound melancholy. The album feels like a return to the project’s roots—windswept, introspective, and shaped by the quiet immensity of alpine landscapes.

Across all incarnations, Ueldes remains a singular vision: atmospheric black metal as emotional cartography, mapping sorrow, memory, and the vastness of nature through sound.
