Uralt is a raw black metal project founded in 2023 in Banja Luka, conceived and executed entirely by the musician HĂşrin. The project’s name—German for “ancient”—captures its aesthetic focus: a cold, primitive, and time‑worn approach to black metal that rejects modern polish in favor of an archaic, frostbitten atmosphere. Uralt quickly established itself within the Bosnian underground through a sound rooted in harsh riffing, icy melodies, and a raw production style that evokes the early second‑wave tradition while maintaining its own regional identity.
The first release, the Winterflame EP (2024), introduced Uralt’s sonic foundation: fast, razor‑sharp tremolo lines, relentless drumming, and a frigid, desolate atmosphere. The EP was noted in underground circles for its straightforward yet evocative songwriting, channeling the spirit of early Scandinavian black metal with a distinctly Balkan edge. Its themes revolve around winter, isolation, and the elemental forces of nature—treated not romantically, but as hostile, ancient presences.
Later in 2024, Uralt released its debut full‑length The Harvester of Winter, which expanded the project’s scope and solidified its identity. The album delivers a more cohesive and immersive experience, with longer compositions, colder atmospheres, and a sharpened sense of melodic phrasing. Critics and listeners within the raw black metal underground praised the album for its consistency, its dedication to a pure and unfiltered sound, and its ability to evoke a sense of frozen desolation without relying on ambient padding or modern embellishments. The record’s atmosphere is stark and unforgiving, driven by HĂşrin’s harsh vocal delivery and a guitar tone that cuts with glacial precision.
Uralt’s affiliation with Masters of Kaos Productions further situates the project within a network of raw, uncompromising black metal acts. Despite its relatively recent formation, the project has already gained attention for its disciplined aesthetic, its commitment to traditional raw black metal values, and its evocative winter‑bound soundscapes. With HĂşrin at the helm—known for his work in Mraz and past involvement in Monolit and Mrlja—Uralt stands as a promising force in the new wave of Bosnian black metal.
