Velesar is a folk metal band from Cieszyn, founded in 2018 by vocalist Marcin Wieczorek, known for his earlier work in Radogost and Goddess of Sin. From the beginning, the project positioned itself firmly within the lineage of Silesian and broader Slavic folk metal—melodic, energetic, and rooted in the spiritual and cultural traditions of native Slavic faith. Their music blends heavy, guitar‑driven metal with lively folk instrumentation, creating a sound that is both celebratory and steeped in ancestral atmosphere.
The band’s identity is shaped by a strong ensemble dynamic. Lead guitarist Dawid Holona and rhythm guitarist Piotr “Ave” Pobłocki provide the melodic backbone, while Katarzyna Babilas (flute) and Ewa Kozieł (violin) bring the bright, folkloric timbres that define Velesar’s sound. Over time, the rhythm section has evolved, with Vsevolod Kalenda joining on drums in 2023 and Zbychu taking over bass duties in 2025, giving the band a renewed sense of drive and precision.
Velesar’s discography reflects a steady creative ascent. Their debut single “Taniec diaboła” (2019) introduced their energetic, folk‑infused style, quickly followed by the full‑length Dziwadła (2019), a vibrant album that established them as a rising force in Polish folk metal. Szczodre gody (2021) expanded their thematic and musical range, drawing more deeply on Slavic ritual cycles and seasonal traditions. A series of singles—“Hej, tam za górą…”, “All You Need Is Trolls”, and “Klątwa”—showcased the band’s playful, melodic, and narrative‑driven approach.
Their 2024 album Pogorzelisko marked a significant step forward: darker, more atmospheric, and thematically richer, it explored the tension between destruction and renewal within Slavic mythic frameworks. The album’s blend of heavy riffs, folk melodies, and expressive vocals solidified Velesar’s place as one of the most compelling contemporary voices in Polish pagan folk metal.
Still active and evolving, Velesar continues to channel Slavic heritage through energetic, melodic, and emotionally resonant folk metal—celebrating ancestral memory while forging a modern, spirited sound.
