Vokkr is a Warsaw‑based black/folk metal project that formally emerged in 2025, though its creative roots stretch back several years through earlier singles and EPs. The band’s sound is built on a fusion of raw black metal intensity with earthy, ritualistic folk elements—music shaped by repetition, trance, and a sense of ancient, marsh‑soaked atmosphere. Vokkr’s identity leans heavily into the primal and the organic: thick bass presence, hypnotic guitar lines, and a vocal and rhythmic approach that feels closer to incantation than performance.
At the center of the project stands Vitautas, the multi‑instrumentalist responsible for nearly all composition and instrumentation. His background—particularly his earlier work with the Belarusian pagan/folk metal band Znich—infuses Vokkr with a distinctly Eastern European folk sensibility. Ihar Tsudzin provides bass, grounding the music with a deep, resonant low end, while Roman Kapitonov joined as drummer in 2025, giving the project a more forceful, organic rhythmic backbone. Bo Janiak is also listed among the members, contributing to the project’s expanding creative circle.
Vokkr’s early material—“Ritual,” “Atruta,” and “The Spear of a Snake” (all 2019)—introduced a raw, folk‑tinged black metal aesthetic. The Charaluh EP (2022) marked a significant step forward, blending atmospheric folk passages with harsher black metal textures. But it was in 2025 that Vokkr fully crystallized: a prolific year of singles such as “Cienie wstajÄ… z ziemi,” “ZgniĹ‚y prorok,” “Mchy i Porosty,” “ZĹ‚amane Korony,” “Bagna,” “Karmiony snem,” “JesteĹ› echem,” and “Ponad Dniem i NocÄ….” These tracks showcased a project steeped in swampy, decaying landscapes and a sense of spiritual dissolution.
All of this momentum culminated in the full‑length Esencja (2025), a work that distilled Vokkr’s identity into a cohesive whole—ritualistic, atmospheric, and rooted in the interplay between black metal ferocity and folk‑driven mood. The single “O” (2025) closed the year with a more introspective, minimalist tone, hinting at further evolution.
Still active, Vokkr stands as one of the newer voices in Poland’s black/folk metal sphere—raw, atmospheric, and shaped by the tension between ancient ritual and modern bleakness.
