Witch Desire was one of the earliest raw black metal projects to emerge from Moldova, forming in Orhei in 1993 and becoming a foundational name in the country’s primitive black metal underground. Their sound embodied the chaotic, unrefined spirit of the early second‑wave era—harsh guitars, cavernous production, and a ritualistic atmosphere steeped in themes of evil, occultism, and witchcraft. Operating during a time when the Moldovan extreme metal scene was still embryonic, Witch Desire helped shape the region’s raw black metal identity and influenced several later acts.

The band’s only known release, the 1996 demo Witch Desire, circulated in extremely limited quantities and has since become a sought‑after rarity among collectors of Eastern European black metal. The demo is characterized by its abrasive guitar tone, primitive drumming, and venomous vocal delivery, capturing the essence of early‑90s underground extremity. Its atmosphere leans heavily into occult mysticism and malevolent energy, aligning Witch Desire with the rawest fringes of the genre.

Witch Desire is also notable for its connections to other Moldovan black metal projects. Members later became involved in Ad Patres and Severegore, two acts that would further develop the region’s black metal landscape. This interconnectedness reflects the small but dedicated Moldovan scene of the 1990s, where musicians often collaborated across multiple projects, contributing to a shared underground culture.

Though the band eventually dissolved, Witch Desire remains an important historical footnote in Moldovan black metal—an early expression of raw, uncompromising extremity that helped lay the groundwork for the country’s later contributions to the genre.
