Zaimus is one of Montenegro’s longest‑running black metal projects, active since 2003 and rooted in the underground scenes of Podgorica. The band’s sound blends traditional black metal aggression with themes of war, occult fantasy, and anti‑Christian defiance, delivered through a raw, uncompromising aesthetic that reflects the early 2000s Balkan extreme metal atmosphere.
In their earliest phase (2003–2005), Zaimus operated as a full band with a live drummer, performing two gigs before entering a hiatus. When the project reactivated in winter 2006, it returned as a duo centered around its founding members—Miloš Klikovac (Asmodai) and Khamul—who have remained the creative core ever since. This shift toward a studio‑focused lineup allowed the band to refine its sound into a more controlled yet still abrasive form of black metal.
Zaimus’s first official release, the 2007 Demo 2007, introduced their raw, war‑driven aesthetic. This was followed by the 2009 EP The Unholy Spells of Night, which expanded their thematic palette into darker fantasy and occult atmospheres. The EP is often regarded as their defining early work, showcasing icy riffing, ritualistic pacing, and a harsh vocal presence that anchors the band’s identity.
The band’s long‑term association with Gollum’s Treasures, a niche underground label, further situates Zaimus within Montenegro’s tightly knit extreme metal network. Members’ involvement in numerous other projects—ranging from black metal to punk‑infused chaos—highlights their deep roots in the regional scene.
Despite their longevity, Zaimus maintains a low public profile, releasing material sporadically and operating with a fiercely underground ethos. Their legacy rests on persistence, rawness, and a commitment to Montenegro’s black metal tradition.
